Patient Can Now Climb Stairs Unassisted Thanks to Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Program

Frances P. is 75 years young she has suffered with severe knee pain in both knees for years.  Whenever she would bend and straighten her knees in a weight bearing position she would experience knee pain.  She was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and chondromalacia patella several years ago. ( Chondromalacia patella is a condition where the cartilage deteriorates behind the knee cap. Individuals with this condition experience pain and difficulty climbing up and down stairs, getting up from a chair, squatting, etc.)

She did not want total knee replacements which is the only thing her orthopedic surgeon suggested that she would eventually need to do.

She came in for a consultation to see me, and she started care the next day.

Frances P. gave us permission to use her unsolicited testimonial so that others can learn about  the  benefits  of  Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program.  The following is her testimonial:

Prior to Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program my knees especially my right knee was excruciatingly painful.  I literally had to haul myself upstairs, out of the car or from any sitting position.  Going up and down stairs was extremely painful and almost impossible.  In the past I’ve tried over the counter products, and physical therapy.  Nothing helped!

Since completing treatments with Dr. Schnee I can rise from a sitting position… I can go up and down stairs unassisted.  I am greatly pleased with my results from Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program.  Overall I would say I have an 80-90% improvement.

If you suffer from knee pain due to chondromalacia, cartilage loss, osteoarthritis of the knee and you want to avoid a total knee replacement or you cannot undergo a total knee replacement due to other health problems then Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program may be the answer to your knee problem. Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program is considered a complete treatment plan that combines low-level laser treatments (cold laser treatments), non-weight bearing exercises, and other modalities that promote rehabilitation of the knee.  Every patient’s program is different depending on whether they suffer from arthritis, ‘bone on bone’, meniscus tears, bursitis, tendonitis, Baker’s Cyst, post surgical arthroscopic knee pain, or a combination of the listed conditions.  If you live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area call our office at 214- 596-1051 to find out if you’re a candidate for Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program.

After Battling Months of Severe Knee Pain from a Large Baker’s Cyst, Meniscus Tear, and Arthritis in the Right Knee, 56 year young, Karen B. states, “I feel like myself again.”

Before starting care with Dr. Schnee I suffered with constant and excruciating knee pain.  I could not sleep at night, sit down, or stand up without knee pain.  I had to pull myself up the stairs because I had no strength in my knee and I had pain.  I took Tylenol Arthritis and Alleve 2X a day just to get by and function.

Since completing Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program I can sleep at night, stand, walk, go up and down stairs without pain.  I have been able to return to my daily routine and I can walk without pain for a long period of time.  I feel like myself again.

I am pleased and (my knee is) feeling much better.   I do not need to take pain medicine for pain or to get me through the day (anymore).  I can say that I feel 90% improved over where I was before (care).

Video Testimonial From Knee Pain Patient, Juanita C.

My knee pain was awful; I don’t even want to remember it.  I couldn’t even walk at times.

I started using a cane when we went to the store, or anywhere, we (often) had to go back home, because my knee (would start) hurting.  I (just) couldn’t walk anymore from the pain. I would be limping.   Also the pain kept me awake at night and I couldn’t sleep.

(Prior to receiving treatments) I had 2 shots (in my knee).  I also tried medications and they helped for a while until they wore off.  I also rubbed a lot of different lotions and creams on my knee.

I was told that I needed a knee replacement but I didn’t want that.

I am glad that I tried Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program.  I am now able to sleep at night without waking up from knee pain. I am so grateful for that! I used to pray that my pain would go away so that I could sleep!!!

I am very pleased with the results that I’ve achieved with Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program.  I am 100% better then I was before treatments! I give thanks to God, Dr. Schnee and staff that I feel better and can walk without pain (and without a cane)!

Severe Osteoarthritic Changes Occur in Knees Over Forty, after Arthroscopic Knee Surgery

By Dr. Alexandra Schnee, DC · February 17, 2010 · Filed in Osteoarthritis · No Comments »

I’ve written previous blogs about the subject of arthroscopic surgery, and in most cases I believe it is a useless procedure  because  in the long run it creates more osteoarthritic changes in the knee  which ultimately leaves the patient with the possibility of having to get a  total knee replacement later in life.  Multiple studies support this idea and clearly indicate that osteoarthritic changes become more prominent after arthroscopic knee surgery.  A recent study conducted at the Department of Traumatology in Austria also supports these studies.   In this current study, arthroscopic knee surgery was performed on 284 patients to remove part of a torn meniscus.

After the surgery was completed x-rays of the knees were taken.  Patients were then X-Rayed and evaluated again 53.5 months after the surgery.  Two hundred forty-seven patients had been treated for medial meniscus tears and 37 for lateral menisci tears. Preoperative radiographs were compared with those at follow up and were classified. The results were analyzed statistically.

Osteoarthritic changes were classified as being worse in 38% of the patients after medial and in 24% of the patients after lateral arthroscopic partial meniscectomy (removing part of the meniscus).   Patients who were older than 40 years of age and who had undergone arthroscopic partial medial meniscus removal had a significantly higher rate of osteoarthritis than patients who were younger than 40 years of age. The study concluded that partial medial or lateral meniscus removal leads to a significant increase of osteoarthritic changes, after arthroscopic surgery especially if you are over 40 years of age.

If you’re still suffering from knee pain months or years after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery then Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program may be the answer to your problem.

Study Proves If Your Over Forty Your Knee Will Be Worse Off After Undergoing Arthroscopic Knee Surgery

By Dr. Alexandra Schnee, DC · February 16, 2010 · Filed in Knee Surgery, Osteoarthritis · No Comments »

Forty-nine patients who were more than forty years old when medial meniscectomy (arthroscopic surgery to remove the medial meniscus due to a tear) was performed returned for follow-up evaluation one to twelve years postoperatively. Pain was present in 62.2 % of patients who underwent surgery to ‘clean out’ degenerative tears (tears due to arthritis), and in 75% of those who underwent surgery to ‘clean out’ traumatic tears (tears due to injury).

The medial (inner) joint space was significantly thinner in patients with degenerative tears versus those with traumatic tears.

The x-ray findings of osteoarthritis were significantly more severe on the side operated on.

The angle of the knee was relatively more ‘bow legged’ on the surgically treated knee (mean, 5.3 degrees) versus the knee that did not undergo surgery.

If you’ve had arthroscopic knee surgery in the past and you’re still suffering with knee pain then Dr.

Low Level LaserEffective with NSAID Resistant Patients

Cold Laser Therapy for Knee Osteoarthritis Is an Effective and Side-Effect Free Therapy in NSAID Resistant Knee Pain

In order to ease osteoarthritis knee pain many knee pain sufferers will take NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). NSAIDs can either be prescribed or be purchased over-the counter.  The most popular drugs are Mobic, Naprosyn, Ibuprofen (Advil and Motrin), and Alleve.  Unfortunately, many of these drugs have long term side-effects and are not EFFECTIVE OR SAFE for those suffering with osteoarthritis knee pain.  Many knee pain sufferers have consumed NSAIDs for so long that they are no longer a viable treatment, and they become resistant to the drugs.

Previous clinical studies have shown effectiveness of low-level laser therapy (cold laser therapy) in reducing pain and inflammation. In a recent study, after 6 weeks of NSAID (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) consumption, 386 unsatisfied patients were treated with cold laser therapy.   Cold laser therapy was conducted to determine if cold laser therapy was an effective treatment for osteoarthritis knee pain.   After completing just 12 sessions the effects of cold laser therapy were assessed.   Researchers discovered that there was a statistically significant improvement in pain, night pain, morning stiffness, walking pain, inflammation, and range of motion after the cold laser therapy treatment was performed.

The study concluded that cold laser therapy is an effective and side effect-free adjunctive therapeutic modality for knee pain osteoarthritis even if the patient is NSAID resistant.

Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program is a complete treatment plan that combines cold laser treatments, non-weight bearing exercises, and other modalities that promote rehabilitation of the knee.  It is considered a conservative, non surgical, safe, effective treatment program that may help you avoid knee surgery.

Should Knee Surgery Be Performed to Fix Degenerative Medial Meniscus Tears?

No, not according to Georgetown University Department of Orthopedics Study!

Rimington T, Mallik K, Evans D, Mroczek K, Reider B. Orthopedics. A prospective study of the nonoperative treatment of degenerative meniscus tears.  2009 Aug;32(8).
Study Conducted at Georgetown University Department of Orthopedics, 3800 Reservoir Road, Washington, DC 20007, USA.:

The study was designed to determine if patients clinically diagnosed with degenerative medical meniscus tears would significantly improve if they did not  elect to do surgery and chose nonoperative-based treatment protocols. Twenty-six patients were followed for 37 months and evaluated clinically, radiographically, and with standardized, validated Modified Lysholm Knee Scoring System (MLKS) and Standardized Activities of Daily Living Scale of the Knee (SADL) questionnaires. Forty-six percent of patients (12 of 26) declined operative treatment.

AFTER  A  3  YEAR FOLLOW UP 100% OF THE PATIENTS THAT RECEIVED NONOPERATIVE TREATMENT  IMPROVED TO A FUNCTIONAL LEVEL THAT ALLOWED THEM TO AVOID SURGERY. THEREFORE, WE RECOMMEND AN INITIAL COURSE OF NONOPERATIVE TREATMENT FOR ALL PATIENTS WITH A CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS OF DEGENERATIVE MEDIAL MENISCUS TEARS PRIOR TO CONSIDERING SURGERY.
