Bone on Bone Knee Pain Takes a Toll on Young Athletes
Bone on Bone knee pain isn’t only reserved for seniors with years of wear and tear. In fact, most professional athletes will suffer from bone on bone knee pain, or other joint problems early on in their careers.
Recently, Kobe Bryant the thirty two year old star basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers stopped practicing with his team because of severe knee pain. Bryant is now only playing in actual games in order to prevent further wear and tear on his knee joint. He announced to Peter Vecsey from The New York Post “… I have very little cartilage under my right knee cap, it’s almost bone on bone.” Kobe Bryant not only wore down the cartilage in his knee because of years of wear and tear from playing basketball, but he had three prior knee surgeries which have also contributed to the cartilage loss and arthritis in his knee joint.
In addition, Portland’s Brandon Roy who plays basketball for the Trail Blazers has had to stop playing altogether because he was experiencing severe knee pain on the court. He just announced that he was going to get another arthroscopic knee surgery even though doctors told him that he no longer had meniscus/cartilage in his knee, and that he was bone on bone. Obviously, Roy is desperate to keep playing because arthroscopic knee surgery is never recommended for bone on bone because the surgery actually exacerbates the problem.
Both Bryant and Roy probably need total knee replacements but that would be unrealistic since it would force them into retirement. If these athletes want to keep playing they should consider getting a trained health care professional to use Cold Laser Therapy on their knee for pain management. If performed correctly cold laser therapy might make a huge difference in allowing both basketball players to practice and play with their team again.

Dallas Cold Laser Doctor Helps Patient Experience Knee Pain Relief without Knee Surgery
Arlington, Texas resident Mary G. visited Dr. Alexandra Schnee, D.C. at the DFW Spine & Joint Center because she was suffering from severe knee pain. Mrs. G already had arthroscopic knee surgery, but even after the surgery the constant pain in her knee persisted. The pain in her knee prevented her from doing any type of activity. After knee surgery the orthopedic knee doctor told her that her knee was headed for a total knee replacement but since she already had a knee replacement on the other knee she wanted to avoid it. This is Mrs. G’s story and her experience with Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program:
“I had arthroscopic knee surgery on my right knee (and four weeks of therapy) but afterwards my right knee was still hurting me. I was miserable and had constant pain in my right knee. I walked with a cane when my knee pain was unbearable, and I became completely inactive and gained 50 pounds. I couldn’t walk or sit for more than one hour or dance like before my knee started hurting me. I could not kneel; I could not run or climb a ladder. I could not play with my grand children like before. I tried Alleve, cortisone injections, crèmes, Morphine, and other pain medications but nothing worked.
To make matters worse after the arthroscopic knee surgery the surgeon told me that I would need a total knee replacement in 2-5 years. I didn’t want to have a total knee replacement because I already had my right knee replaced after having 2 arthroscopies and it was still hurting me.
So instead I decided to start Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Treatment Knee Program. I am very pleased with my experience and with the results. My overall improvement in my knee has been about 70%. I now can sleep better and I can also walk with less pain for longer distances.”

The Top 4 Things Seniors Can Do To Improve Joint Health
Choose the right exercises and stretch daily: Don’t choose exercises that put your joints at high risk for injury. Exercises that include constant pounding, start-stopping motions, shuffling, and twisting will eventually wear down the joints and possibly cause injury. Instead choose exercises that are low-impact on the joints such as cycling, walking and swimming. In addition to daily exercise you should stretch every day. Improving your flexibility will help you avoid injuries to the joints.
Don’t allow your weight to become a BIG issue: An average person takes 2,000-5,000 steps daily. Every 5 pound gain increases the force on your knees by 100,000 pounds per day. Over the years your knees will wear down faster if you weigh more. In addition, the extra weight will put more strain on your lower back and on the discs in your spine.
Vitamins and Supplements: Taking vitamins and supplements on a daily basis is a simple thing you can do to help support and maintain joint health. Consider taking a high quality supplement that has glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM in it. Include Vitamin D3 and Omega-3 fish oil supplements as these have also shown to help lubricate, support and protect the cartilage in your joints.
Get regular chiropractic care: Chiropractors are specialists in spine and joint problems so visiting your chiropractor regularly keeps your spine moving properly. If you don’t have a chiropractor, select one who is trained in multiple techniques. For instance, the Activator technique is a gentle type of chiropractic treatment that is a good option for seniors. With this technique there is none of the usual ‘popping’ or ‘cracking’ that one might associate with a chiropractic treatment. Chiropractors can also utilize non-invasive spinal decompression, cold laser therapy and other forms of physiotherapy to help patients who suffer with more severe arthritis, disc problems, or pinched nerves.

Cold Laser Treatments Stop Burning, Aching in Knee for Cedar Hill Resident
Recently, Mrs. H completed Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program because she was complaining of severe burning, aching and stiffness in her right knee, and she wanted to postpone having a total knee replacement for another 5 years. This is her story.
“I suffered with sporadic aching and burning in my right knee along with extreme stiffness first thing in the morning and after sitting for a while. Coming down stairs quickly was extremely painful and I had to be careful about sitting on the floor because it was hard to get up. Also, the pain in my knee was noticeable more in colder months. I tried Ibuprofen, and chiropractic adjustments-everything helped a little but nothing was permanent. I was told that I would eventually need a knee replacement by an orthopedic surgeon.
Since completing Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program it’s just easier to do everything now, and my knee feels 50-60% better then when I started care. Yes, [I am pleased with my overall experience and results with Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program at the DFW Spine & Joint Center].”

After A Series of Failed Knee Surgeries, Patient Finally Gets Knee Pain Relief with Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program
Mrs. Paula C. drove every week from Brownwood, Texas to the DFW Spine & Joint Center in Irving, Texas for Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program. She came in complaining of severe knee pain in both knees due to ‘bone on bone’ knee pain. For years she suffered with intense pain mainly in her right knee, but after undergoing a series of failed knee surgeries the pain became unbearable.
Mrs. C’s case is not unique many times knee surgery will actually exacerbate the problem that is supposedly being treated.
Have you had knee surgery, and are still having knee pain? Then may be Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program can help you just like it helped Mrs. C.
Here’s Mrs. C’s story:
“The pain in both knees was very severe. The knees hurt all the time. I couldn’t exercise, clean house, play golf, walk or even sleep without experiencing knee pain. I took pain pills on a regular basis all day and still did not have much knee pain relief. I have tried many things including medications, shots, knee surgery, even a stimulus therapy called Bionicare system where you use electronic pulse sleeves that you wear thru the night. I had four knee surgeries on my right knee including an osteotomy. This is where they cut a wedge in the bone of the lower leg and then staple it back together to try and redistribute the weight so I wouldn’t have to have anymore arthroscopic knee surgeries. [It didn’t work.]
I decided to try Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program because I did not want a total knee replacement and I’m so glad I did. I am very pleased with the results that I have received. I can sleep throughout the night. I was able to decorate for the holidays without pain especially going up and down stairs in the attic. [Also I don’t need to take any pain pills anymore.] The cold laser treatments were painless, and the therapists that took care of me daily were very professional and so much fun and enjoyable to visit with. My overall improvement is at about 90% better than when I stepped foot in the door of the office. I would recommend this facility and this therapy to anyone who has any type of knee pain.”

Fort Worth Resident Can Now Stand And Walk Without The Assistance Of A Walker with Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Treatments
Prior to completing Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program, knee pain kept Mrs. P., a Fort Worth resident, from walking any distance without the use of a walker. Her surgeon suggested a total knee replacement after knee injections proved to be unsuccessful. However, Mrs. P’s cardiologist did not approve of her undergoing major surgery so she looked for other options and found Dr. Alexandra Schnee, D.C. in Irving, Texas. The following is Mrs. P’s story, and how Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program has made a major difference in her life.
“My pain level was a 10 [in my knee]!! I was unable to walk without the assistance of a walker. I then only walked for the necessary activities of daily living. I was unable to sleep at night due to the pain. I could not sit for very long either. Initially, I went to an orthopedic surgeon for an x-ray and examination. He recommended a knee replacement. He also gave me a knee injection which did no good at all. I tried physical therapy which caused more pain.
Since completing Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program I can now stand, and walk without the assistance of a walker [because I have very little knee pain]. Although I still have limitations, I can take care of my daily living needs and attend some social activities. I now sleep soundly without medication, and I can now sit for longer periods of time. I am very pleased with the Cold Laser treatments that I received. I am experiencing approximately 80% mobility over my original condition. I expect this to improve with time as I continue the exercises provided to me by Dr. Schnee.

Tai Chi Helps Relieve Osteoarthritis Knee Pain in Seniors
Recently, a patient with osteoarthritis knee pain asked me if Tai Chi, a form of Chinese martial arts, would help reduce their OA symptoms. Absolutely!! The slow rhythmic movements of Tai Chi not only help reduce stiffness and pain in the joint but they also help improve a patient’s mood.
A recent study published online by Arthritis Care and Research, conducted by Tufts University School of Medicine found that Tai Chi, a form of Chinese martial arts, helps seniors improve symptoms of osteoarthritis knee pain.
Researchers from Tufts University School of Medicine divided 40 participants into two groups. Twenty participants attended Tai Chi classes 2X a week for 12 weeks for 60 minutes. The other 20 participants attended a 60 minutes class that covered stretches, diet and nutrition and information about the disease. At the end of the 12 week period the group that practiced Tai Chi noticed a significant decrease in knee pain over the control group. Researchers also noted an increase in strength, range of motion, and improved overall balance with the group that practiced Tai Chi.
After undergoing my Cold Laser Knee Program to help relieve osteoarthritis knee pain I encourage all of my patients to find a fitness facility that offers classes in Tai Chi. If you suffer with osteoarthritis knee pain you should consider doing the same.

After Completing Cold Laser Knee Therapy, Fort Worth Resident Is Able to Go Grocery Shopping For The First Time In 5 Months
“Before starting cold laser treatments I had intense pain and soreness in my right knee and moderate pain in the left knee. At its worst I could I not walk or stand for short periods of time. Numerous activities like shopping or cooking were stopped almost completely. I tried [many different remedies that didn’t help me for instance pain medications prescribed and over the counter. I also tried creams and pain patches. Anti-inflammatories helped with the swelling somewhat. The orthopedic surgeon said I would eventually need surgery but he and I agreed that I would not be a good candidate for surgery because of past blood clots.
Since completing Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program now I am able to walk through the house without using the cane. Also I can drive longer distances, and not be in so much pain when I get out of the car. I am pleased with my overall results. My knees feel 40-50% better [then they did before starting care]. Today I went grocery shopping for the first time in about 5 months.”

Iliotibial Band Syndrome May Be What’s Causing Your Knee Pain
The iliotibial band (IT Band) refers to a fibrous band of tissue that attaches at the hip and extends down the outside of the thigh (femur) to the outside of the knee. If this band becomes tight, irritated or inflamed then it is referred to as iliotibial band syndrome.
With this condition most people complain of pain on the outside of the knee joint, however pain can also be experienced higher up on the outside of the thigh or hip. If left untreated iliotibial band syndrome can eventually create havoc on the entire joint, because a tight iliotibial band changes the mechanics of the hip and knee joint.
Most individuals who suffer with iliotibial band syndrome are:
- Runners
- Individuals who do not stretch on a regular basis and are not flexible
- Athletes who are consistently increasing their mileage
- Structural issues such as being bowlegged, flat footed or even having unequal leg lengths
Solutions:
- Stretch daily and use a foam roller to work out the ‘knots’ in the muscle.
- Use an ice pack daily over the area for 20 minutes.
- If the IT band is really irritated then you may have to lie off of any activity that is aggravating the muscle.
Finally, if your pain does not resolve by resting, using an ice pack, and stretching then you may need to visit your health care professional.
At the DFW Spine & Joint Center we have treated many individuals with IT band syndrome and they respond well to combining cold laser therapy along with physiotherapy modalities- (Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program). The reason is we’re able to reduce the irritation, and the inflammation to the iliotibial band. In addition, we work on improving the flexibility and reducing adhesions in the IT band so the likelihood of the problem recurring is very minimal.

Fort Worth Resident Experiences Knee Pain Relief with Non-Surgical Cold Laser Therapy
Two months ago, Mrs. D visited Dr. Alexandra Schnee, D.C. at the DFW Spine & Joint Center complaining of severe knee pain. The pain kept her from doing any activities that involved walking, standing, or climbing stairs. She even complained of pain at night. She was told by an orthopedic surgeon that she would need to get a total knee replacement since she was diagnosed with ‘bone on bone’, osteoarthritis of the knee, and chondromalacia patella. Mrs. D did not want to have knee surgery because she had friends who had it done and they were still complaining that they had knee pain. The following testimonial is Mrs. D’s story and her experience with Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Treatment Knee Program. (She gave us permission to share it.)
“[Before starting Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program] the pain in my left knee was very severe. There was swelling and a popping noise when I walked. My walking was slow and painful. When my knee pain was at its worst the walking and standing was limited to short periods of time. Sitting and lying down was very uncomfortable to get in the right position. Before cold laser therapy I tried using a heating pad and I took Aleve two and three times a day and I stayed off of my feet as much as possible. I talked with my friends that were having the same problems and they had the replacement and surgery and I didn’t want to go that way so I decided I did not want surgery. [Even though the surgeon recommended that I have knee replacement surgery].
Since completing Dr.Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program I can sleep at night. I don’t use a pillow anymore [between my knee knees] and I can stand and walk without knee pain. There is very little popping, and the swelling [in my knee] is completely gone.
I am very pleased with cold laser therapy treatments. [This is non-surgical so] There are no scars. My overall percentage [of improvement since starting care] would be 85-95%. I have told all of my friends and I recommend it very highly.”
