Laser Education 101: The History of Lasers
LASERs were first theorized by Albert Einstein in 1917. In 1960, Dr. Endre Mester, a Hungarian scientist, invented laser technology. Prior to being FDA Cleared in the U.S. cold lasers were being used in Europe, Japan and China to treat acute and chronic conditions. In addition, there were at least 2,000 studies already published proving the efficacy of cold laser therapy. Years later, and after significant developments in the technology, cold lasers were finally cleared in the U.S. in 2001.
Currently, there are multiple types of cold lasers that are FDA cleared for the treatment of a variety of health conditions including arthritis pain. In addition, cold laser therapy is used in many hospitals, rehabilitation, and clinics in the U.S. and around the world. In Europe, China, and Japan, it is not unusual for patients to undergo cold laser treatments to treat chronic and acute conditions in order to reduce pain, swelling and restore function. In the United States almost every professional sports team and professional athlete uses cold laser therapy to treat injuries. Cold lasers allow them to speed up the healing process, decrease pain, increase range of motion, and eliminate swelling.
Laser therapy has also proven to be a versatile and high-tech solution in the health care field. By simply changing the wavelength, frequency and power of a cold laser it can be used for various health conditions. For example, it is becoming more common for orthopedic doctors, pain management specialists, cosmetic surgeons, dentists, dermatologists, and podiatrists to use cold lasers as part of their arsenal of tools in assisting patients with their treatment goals.
Stay tuned for Laser Education 102…Learn how cold lasers work, why they work and why it’s the best option for treating knee pain.

Start Eating Cherries, It May Help Ease Osteoarthritis Knee Pain
The Baylor Research Institute conducted a 12 week pilot study on a total of 20 patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee. The study involved patients taking the equivalent of 100 tart cherries crushed in a pill form daily. The study found that after 12 weeks between 50 and 60 percent of patients experienced relief by taking just one pill a day. A randomized trial will be completed in 2010 to validate the pilot study. If the results of this study show that the patients who took cherry pills improved then this will give patients another natural option for managing osteoarthritis knee pain. (1)

Vitamin D3: “The Next Cure-All Vitamin” for Joint Pain and Other Chronic Diseases
If your doctor hasn’t discussed the benefits of Vitamin D3 with you the chances are he will in the near future. At one time no one knew about the benefits of Omega 3’s and fish oil. Now virtually every doctor recommends supplementing your diet with them. Similarly, vitamin D3 is becoming the next ‘cure all’ supplement that has the research to back it up.
For instance, research indicates that knowing your Vitamin D level may actually be more important at determining your overall health and long-term health problems than cholesterol. Low Vitamin D levels are associated with heart disease, high blood pressure, most cancers, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, autism, osteoporosis, autoimmune diseases, frequent infections, colds and flu (1, 2)
If you suffer with knee pain you may want to consider supplementing with vitamin D3 because
Low Vitamin D levels can also promote the expression of chronic pain. Research indicates that bone pain, joint pain, muscle pain, and fibromyalgia can be exacerbated if there are low levels of Vitamin D3. (3, 4).
The only way you can get vitamin D naturally is by getting adequate sun. Most of us don’t get enough sunshine therefore most of us are deficient in vitamin D. In addition, virtually no food contains Vitamin D3 except oily fish consumed in large quantities in the traditional Eskimo diet.
Your doctor can test you to find out your levels of Vitamin D3. The optimal range is between 40-60ng/ml and most people who do not take Vitamin D3 are in the 10-30 ng/ml range. It takes about 2,000-4000 IUs to get the level of Vitamin D3 to 40ng/ml.
Adding Vitamin D3 to your arsenal of supplements is a simple yet effective change you can make especially if you’re suffering from chronic knee and joint pain.

“I Believe That the Cold Laser Treatments and (Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Program) Were a Great Alternative to the Joint Replacement Surgery.”
The pain (before undergoing cold laser treatments) was steady and very bothersome in my right knee. The pain often prevented me from sleeping very well. I would wake up many times at night, and in the morning I could barely move around. I was unable to walk without a great deal of (knee) pain. Walking was very slow and painful. I could not go up or down stairs. I could not walk downhill or down a ramp without a great deal of difficulty. I went to the orthopedic surgeon that did arthroscopic surgery on my knee 5 years ago. He gave me a steroid injection, but it never really helped relieve the (knee) pain. The arthroscopic surgery removed some of my cartilage…, and my orthopedic surgeon told me I would probably need to have knee replacement surgery in the long term. I do not want to do that. (That’s when I started treatments with Dr. Schnee).
I believe that the cold laser treatments and (Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Program) were a great alternative to the joint replacement surgery. I can walk up stairs much better now. (I can sleep at night without pain) I am very pleased with the reduction in my pain level. I would say my overall improvement is in the 75%-80% range. My knee is also much more flexible than before (treatments). I believe that following the exercise plan (that Dr. Schnee gave me my knee) will improve even more.
Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program combines non-weight bearing exercises (so that you don’t do more damage to the knee joint), multiple cold lasers, and other therapies so can enjoy life again! Knee Pain From a Meniscus Tear, Arthritis, And a Baker’s Cyst
On a scale of 1-10 the pain often reached a debilitating 9 or 10 with regularity. I seldom could go an hour without some level of pain. The right side of my left knee was extremely painful when the fabric of my pants touched the skin. I had to wear a knee wrap often to diffuse this. Excruciating pain occurred after riding in or driving a car for more then 10-15 minutes. (My knee) never failed to act up, no matter the seat adjustment. At home I could not sit for a long time without pain occurring. After a while I had to get up and walk the pain off. I tried different types of pain relievers and a cortisone shot. It was only effective for 2-3 weeks then started to wear off.
Now that I’ve completed Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program I can now drive or ride in a car for at least an hour with no debilitating pain. I can now sit for a long time without pain occurring. I am very well pleased with the results. I would rate my improvement at least 70-75% better then when I started. It was well worth the effort and price.
