The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Clinical Practice Guidelines clearly state, “We recommend against performing arthroscopy with debridement or lavage in patients with a primary diagnosis of symptomatic OA (osteoarthritis) of the knee.” 1
Why don’t orthopedic surgeons recommend ‘cleaning up’ the knee with arthroscopic knee surgery for osteoarthritis knee pain? Because it doesn’t work, and most patients feel worse after the surgery and eventually need total knee replacements!!!

Cold Laser As Effective As Cortisone Shots But Safer Study Indicates
Rats with arthritis were exposed to a number of different cold laser protocols. It was found that treating the arthritic area with 810-nm cold laser (low-level laser) was as good as cortisone at reducing swelling, and most importantly had none of the negative side-effects of cortisone. In addition, cortisone shots in the knee are very painful and uncomfortable however cold laser treatments are completely painless. The research study verified that cold laser therapy not only reduced joint swelling but also correlated with decreased serum prostaglandins, a common marker of inflammation.
