Harvard Medical School, NASA, The US Navy – Scientific Breakthroughs Using Cold Laser Therapy
Since the invention of low-level laser therapy (LLLT or cold laser therapy) over forty years ago it has been mostly known for its use in reducing pain, inflammation and edema, promoting healing of wounds, healing deeper tissue and nerve problems, and preventing tissue damage. For years, where conventional medicine (drugs, injections, surgery) has failed in treating many chronic, degenerative and painful musculoskeletal conditions, cold laser therapy has proven to be more effective.
However, recently all of that has changed.
Cold laser therapy is no longer just being used for musculoskeletal conditions.
Scientists are currently investigating cold laser therapy’s use for treating spinal cord injuries, stroke, and both Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases.
Cold laser therapy is also being trialed by NASA for manned missions into space and has already been used in Antarctica and on US Navy submarines. (Cold lasers are used because in these extreme environments people do not heal very well after injuries)
In addition, at BiOS 2009 (part of SPIE Photonics West) researchers were invited from Harvard Medical School, the US Navy and NASA along with a dozen others to present the clinical benefits of cold laser therapy and its effects on stroke recovery, restoring eyesight after laser injury, healing age-related macular degeneration, improving heart muscle after myocardial infarction, spinal cord injuries, and sperm motility. The full benefits of cold laser therapy for treatment are just beginning to be realized.
Recent findings have changed everything we know about cold laser therapy. It is no longer used just for musculoskeletal conditions…it is anticipated that LLLT technology could be used in almost every hospital department throughout the world. [1]

Cold Laser Therapy Scientific Breakthroughs for Knee and Joint Pain | Dallas-Fort Worth
Dallas Cold Laser Doctor,Dr.Schnee,D.C. shares a Scientific Breakthrough that Cold Laser Therapy, can be used for more than musculoskeletal conditions.
Injured Muscles Heal Faster With Cold Laser Therapy
Scientists in Brazil evaluated the effects of cold laser therapy on traumatic muscle injuries in rats. The injury was done by single-blunt injury to the gastrocnemius muscle (calf muscle). Scientists separated the rats into three groups. Group I was the control group (uninjured and untreated). Group II was injured but did not receive cold laser treatments. Group III was injured and received cold laser treatments. The results showed that after 5 days of cold laser treatments on Group III the activities of complex II and succinate dehydrogenase increased when compared to the control group. Moreover, the results indicated that cold laser treatments on the injured rats significantly increased the activities of complexes I, II, III, IV and succinate dehydrogenase, when compared to the group of injured rats that did not receive treatments.
The research showed that cold laser therapy increases mitochondrial ATP synthesis which in turn accelerates the muscle healing process.

What Alternatives Are Available When You’ve Already Tried Everything To Get Rid Of Your Knee Pain?
What are your options when you’ve been suffering with severe knee pain for years, and you’ve already tried everything to get rid of the pain for instance knee injections (cortisone and/ or gel injections), prescription/ over the counter medications, and/or have had arthroscopic knee surgery and your knee is not any better?
The following is a list of your treatment options:
Do any of these sound familiar to you?
A) Live with the pain. (Obviously, this is not something you want to hear when you’re dealing with pain.)
B) Get a partial or total knee replacement. (Definitely NOT a good first option, and should always be the final step after all conservative measures have been exhausted.)
C) Try more of the same things that didn’t get your knee better the first time around. (for example: medications, knee surgery and knee injections.)
In my opinion, C) shouldn’t even be an option. I have never understood why someone would allow an orthopedic surgeon to perform arthroscopic knee surgery for a second time or undergo another round of knee injections if they weren’t successful the first time around.
D) Exercise.
Exercising the muscles around the knee joint is a crucial part of recovery. However, it is only one step in the recovery process, and normally it is the last step. Even though patients are often told to exercise it is usually impossible for someone suffering with severe knee pain. If you are experiencing knee pain while exercising STOP BECAUSE YOU COULD BE CREATING MORE DAMAGE TO THE KNEE JOINT.
E) Cold Laser Therapy for knee pain.
In my opinion this is one of the best treatment options for patients suffering from knee pain.
Cold laser therapy is considered safe and effective. There is over 40 years of research proving its effectiveness in treating joint, and soft tissue ailments. Cold lasers are used to help reduce/eliminate knee pain and inflammation, repair and heal damaged tissues in and around the knee joint, and speed up the healing process. Cold laser therapy allows you to get back to living your life pain-free again; many times without the need for further medications, knee injections or knee surgery.
If you’ve already exhausted all of your options and don’t want a knee replacement then call our office. You’ll be glad you did. The only thing you’ll regret is not calling us sooner.

Reduce Inflammation and Increase Joint Mobility with Cold Laser Therapy!
A recent study was conducted to determine the effects of low-level lasers (cold laser therapy) on inflammation and reduced joint mobility due to knee arthritis. In the study, rats were injected in the knee joint with Zymosan, a solution that induces arthritis and creates an inflammatory response. The knee joint was then treated with low-level laser therapy (cold laser therapy) for one hour immediately after the injection was administered.
The results indicate that cold lasers significantly inhibit edema formation (or swelling) by 24% and increase knee joint mobility by 59%.
If you are suffering with knee pain due to arthritis then Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program is considered a complete treatment plan for the treatment of knee pain that combines low-level laser treatments (cold laser treatments, cold laser therapy), non-weight bearing knee exercises, and other modalities that promote rehabilitation of the knee.

You Don’t Have to Live With Knee Pain
“Call me when you’re ready to get your knee replaced. Until then there’s nothing more I can do. You’ll have to live with the pain.”
Obviously, this is not something you want to hear when you’re dealing with severe knee pain.
But unfortunately this may sound familiar to many of you dealing with knee pain for years.
Should you be made to suffer just because you don’t want your knee replaced? What if you’re never ready to get your knee replaced?
I believe no one should have to live with knee pain. I also believe that your knee doctor should offer you EVERY option available (including cold laser therapy), and it should be your decision to choose the best option for you.
Your quality of life shouldn’t be reduced to nothing just because you don’t want to undergo a knee replacement. I have treated hundreds of patients with knee pain and almost every one of them has told me that they would have started our Cold Laser Knee Program sooner IF THEY HAD JUST KNOWN ABOUT THE TREATMENTS. There are a handful of knee surgeons that won’t tell you about non-invasive solutions only because that would mean you wouldn’t need to go back to them for medications, knee injections or knee surgery. The bottom line is business would be taken away from them.
I believe a knee replacement should only be performed after all conservative measures have been exhausted, including cold laser treatments. Once a partial or total knee replacement is performed there is no ‘turning back’. Good or bad you’re stuck with the results.
I’ve been treating patients since 2001 and our Cold Laser Knee Program has never hurt or killed anyone. Cold laser treatments won’t harm you in anyway. Death, blood clots, infections and rashes are possible side effects with surgery, medications, and injections NOT Cold laser treatments. As a matter of fact, there are NO side effects with treatments (except maybe mild soreness after the first treatment that goes away with an ice pack). If you’re one of the 8 out of 10* that are helped and experience pain relief with treatments, and are able to avoid knee surgery then it’s certainly worth trying our program.
So instead of living with knee pain and waiting for it to become so severe that it forces you to become wheelchair bound…BE PROACTIVE. Call my office today at 214-596-1051 and find out if you’re a candidate for our Cold Laser Knee Program. Get the relief you want and the quality of life you desire without knee surgery!

Find Out How To Choose The Right ‘Cold Laser Doctor’ To Treat Knee Pain
No matter what a doctors degree of medical competence is a thorough understanding of cold laser therapy is needed in order to achieve successful results with a laser. Any licensed health care provider can own cold laser equipment but that does not make them proficient in its use. I get daily phone calls and e-mails from patients who live out of state asking me to recommend a doctor in their area who is proficient with cold laser therapy AND is proficient with treating knee pain. Unfortunately, I have no idea who to refer them too because I’m not familiar with out of state cold laser doctors.
The bottom line is if you’re looking for a doctor who uses cold laser therapy for knee pain make sure that this is their specialty. For example, you wouldn’t go to an orthopedic surgeon to operate on your knee if they specialized in the shoulder joint.
Again, I’m sure you’ll find plenty of doctors who advertise that they use cold lasers in their practice. BUT do they treat all sorts of conditions and joints or do they focus solely on knee problems? And are cold lasers an integral part of their practice or just one of the many therapeutic treatments they use in practice?
Please note a Cold laser treatment in inexperienced hands is just as effective as not getting a cold laser treatment at all…
Since 2001, Dr. Alexandra K. Schnee, D.C. has solely been using cold lasers in her practice to treat patients suffering from knee pain. Her mission is to help patients experience knee pain relief and improve their quality of life so that they can avoid taking unnecessary medications, knee injections, and hopefully avoid undergoing knee surgery. Patients travel from all over the DFW Metroplex, as well as from surrounding states and other countries to get treated by Dr. Schnee. Her experience with non-surgical cold laser therapy and treating knee pain problems is unsurpassed.

Find The Right Cold Laser Doctor For Your Knee Pain | Dallas-Fort Worth
Dr.Schnee,D.C.explains ways to choose the right Cold Laser Doctor for your Knee Pain and why not all Cold Laser Doctors Treat the Knee. Dallas-Ft.Worth.
Why Hasn’t My Doctor Told Me About Cold Laser Therapy?
That’s a good question. I don’t know why YOUR knee doctor hasn’t shared the benefits of cold laser therapy with you, but I think I know the answer… First, let me just state that our office gets daily referrals from orthopedists, internal medicine doctors, rheumatologists, pain management doctors and primary care physicians.
Most physicians understand that not all patients want, need or respond well to surgery, injections or pain medications. Physicians refer patients to our office to undergo our Cold Laser Knee Program because it is considered safe, and effective, and it’s definitely worth trying if other knee treatments have failed, and before any further knee surgery is recommended or performed.
Now let me get back to answering the question.
There are two obvious reasons why your doctor hasn’t told you about cold laser treatments.
The first and most obvious reason is that they are probably unaware of the technology. Even though there are an increasing number of doctors using cold lasers, and are becoming more educated about the benefits of the treatment there are still many more physicians that do not know about it.
The other reason your doctor may not have told you about the treatment is because they are narrow minded, and they just don’t want to change their method of treatment. These doctors are skeptical about everything except for the techniques they use. It doesn’t matter what overwhelming evidence you provide them they still consider everything other than ‘conventional medicine’ a sham. (Ironically, ‘conventional medicine’, for example, prescription medication and surgery was ranked one of the leading causes of death by the CDC. In my opinion, ‘narrow minded’ physicians are one of the reasons why the U.S. is only ranked 37th in health care by the World Health Organization.) I wonder sometimes if this group of physicians is truly acting on behalf of the patient or only looking out for themselves. After all, if your knee pain significantly improves or is eliminated after completing our Cold Laser Knee Program then why would you go back to the surgeon?
The bottom line is…if you’ve tried medications, knee injections and/or knee surgery and those options haven’t helped you than don’t wait for your knee to get worse. Your quality of life doesn’t have to suffer just because you orthopedic doctor hasn’t referred you for or told you about cold laser treatments.
If you are still suffering from knee pain, and have tried everything don’t feel hopeless! Dr. Schnee may be able to help you. If you have knee pain due to cartilage loss, ‘bone on bone’, or osteoarthritis of the knee and you want to avoid a total knee replacement or you cannot undergo a total knee replacement due to other health problems then Dr. Schnee’s Cold Laser Knee Program may be the answer to your knee problem.

Why Doctors Do Not Mention Cold Laser Therapy for Treating Knee Pain | Dallas-Fort Worth
Irving Cold Laser Therapy Doctor explains why some doctors may not mention cold laser therapy as an option for treating knee pain Dallas-Ft Worth.
Laser Education 101: The History of Lasers
LASERs were first theorized by Albert Einstein in 1917. In 1960, Dr. Endre Mester, a Hungarian scientist, invented laser technology. Prior to being FDA Cleared in the U.S. cold lasers were being used in Europe, Japan and China to treat acute and chronic conditions. In addition, there were at least 2,000 studies already published proving the efficacy of cold laser therapy. Years later, and after significant developments in the technology, cold lasers were finally cleared in the U.S. in 2001.
Currently, there are multiple types of cold lasers that are FDA cleared for the treatment of a variety of health conditions including arthritis pain. In addition, cold laser therapy is used in many hospitals, rehabilitation, and clinics in the U.S. and around the world. In Europe, China, and Japan, it is not unusual for patients to undergo cold laser treatments to treat chronic and acute conditions in order to reduce pain, swelling and restore function. In the United States almost every professional sports team and professional athlete uses cold laser therapy to treat injuries. Cold lasers allow them to speed up the healing process, decrease pain, increase range of motion, and eliminate swelling.
Cold Laser therapy has also proven to be a versatile and high-tech solution in the health care field. By simply changing the wavelength, frequency and power of a cold laser it can be used for various health conditions. For example, it is becoming more common for orthopedic doctors, pain management specialists, cosmetic surgeons, dentists, dermatologists, and podiatrists to use cold lasers as part of their arsenal of tools in assisting patients with their treatment goals.
Stay tuned for Laser Education 102…Learn how cold lasers work, why they work and why it’s the best option for treating knee pain.

Dr. Schnee Introduces Her Blog On Cold Laser Therapy In Irving, TX
Hi, my name is Dr. Alexandra Schnee, and since 2001 I have been in private practice and clinic director of the DFW Spine & Joint Center.
I often get asked why I chose to focus solely on knees and why I incorporated cold laser therapy into my practice. The answer is simple. Years ago I tore the meniscus in my knee practicing yoga. Arthroscopic surgery was recommended by the doctor who consulted with me. I knew that if I had surgery it would promote arthritis in my knee, and probably set me up for a future knee replacement because the cartilage or meniscus that was removed during surgery would never grow back. Surgery was not what I wanted! I knew that I needed to try a safe, nonsurgical option FIRST!
As a result, I studied and researched all of my options available to fix my knee pain. The most common suggestion was to take medication or have a cortisone shot. Fortunately, I knew that those were not solutions to the problem instead medications/shots would just mask the knee pain. Physical therapy was also suggested, but wasn’t an option for me because it would do nothing to heal or repair the problem.
I had first learned about cold laser therapy in college, so I decided to do more research about the topic. I found thousands of published studies and I discovered that the therapy was being performed in hospitals and clinics in Europe and Asia for decades. I was pleased to find out that general practitioners, orthopedic surgeons, neurologists, pain management doctors, and chiropractors had been using low-level lasers, aka cold lasers, for years. They successfully treated and managed patients suffering from a variety of joint and soft tissue problems. Doctors were using lasers to help heal and repair tissue, reduce/eliminate pain, and decrease swelling and inflammation.
At that point, I knew that I had found a treatment for my knee pain that made sense, was safe and had tons of research to support its efficacy. I decided that I had nothing to lose, and that cold laser treatments were the best option for my situation.
In my case not only was the cold laser treatment effective but I was able to avoid knee surgery, and I was able to get back to doing everything I loved. At that time, my experience also helped me realize that cold laser therapy was being underutilized in the United States to help treat musculoskeletal problems.
Fortunately, now all of that has changed, since 2001 cold lasers have been FDA cleared and are utilized all over the United States by doctors in rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and in clinics.
Cold laser therapy made such a profound impact in my life that after I graduated Valedictorian of my class with a Doctor of Chiropractic Degree, I received extensive training on the topic, and over the years I have successfully incorporated cold lasers with other therapies to create a specialized Cold Laser Knee Program for patients suffering with knee pain. In my office we use this cutting edge technology to treat patients suffering from knee pain due to meniscus/cartilage problems, arthritis, baker’s cyst, tendonitis, bursitis, ‘bone on bone’, sprains/strains… etc. Since 2001 I have successfully completed over 18,000 cold laser treatments, and I constantly train other doctors on how to properly use cold lasers. In 2007 I wrote an article about Knee Pain and Baby Boomers, and that same year I was invited to join the renowned Medical Advisory Board for Microlight lasers. In April 2009 I was chosen as Doctor of the Month after my article on Cold Laser Therapy was peer-reviewed and published on Spine-Health.com. I am Texas Board Certified and National Board Certified. I am also a member of the North American Association of Laser Therapy.
